Elle sera en allemand : Wikipedia sur papier

Dans le cadre d’une initiative combinant le concept d’encyclopédie créée en ligne par des utilisateurs à la page imprimée, le groupe médiatique allemand Bertelsmann AG publiera ce qui pourrait être le premier d’une série de volumes annuels dont le contenu est une sélection faite parmi les centaines de milliers d’entrées d’internautes allemands sur Wikipedia.
Bertelsmann AG englobant notamment la maison d’édition Random House et l’entreprise de musique Sony BMG a annoncé mercredi la publication, sous peu, de L’Encyclopédie à volume unique de Wikipedia, dont le premier numéro paraîtra en septembre avec un contenu constitué de 50 000 des termes les plus recherché dans la version en langue allemande de Wikipedia. Beate Varnhorn, responsable de la publication chez Bertelsmann Encyclopaedia Institute, a expliqué à AP que le nombre éléphantesque d’entrées sur le site allemand de Wikipedia au dernier décompte, on en comptait quelque 740 000 qui rempliraient bien des centaines de volumes imprimés signifie que leur publication intégrale n’était pas une bonne idée pour le commerce de livres allemand. Par contre, une collection annuelle des termes les plus populaires aurait de l’attrait, dit-elle. « Un volume annuel peut réellement constituer une documentation de référence fidèle du zeitgeist, un terme allemand signifiant ‘‘l’esprit du temps’’. »
Mme Varnhorn a indiqué que la liste des termes les plus populaires avait été passée au peigne fin pour trouver des entrées pertinentes et valables, dont le texte compte en moyenne de 8 à 10 lignes. Parmi les entrées à publier, il y en a une par exemple pour la console Wii de Nintendo et des textes sur des écrivains et musiciens allemands. « Les entrées sont vérifiées pour s’assurer de l’exactitude des faits avancés, en particulier dans les cas des sujets à risque », dit-elle, sans préciser desquels il s’agissait.
Comme son homonyme en ligne, la version imprimée sera publiée sous licence d’utilisation libre, ce qui signifie que son contenu pourra être distribué et copié et ce, même commercialement. Les copies du livre de 992 pages publié en allemand seulement se détailleront à 31,80 dollars. Bertelsmann a accepté de compenser Wikimedia Deutschland eV qui fait la promotion de la version en langue allemande de l’encyclopédie en ligne à raison de 1,59 dollar la copie, a dit Arne Klempert, directrice du groupe médiatique.
