Microsoft lance MSN Maghreb

Il y a dix millions d’utilisateurs d’Internet dans les trois pays du Maghreb et la moitié va sur Windows Live Messenger ou Hotmail, selon un responsable de la compagnie.
Les politiciens de la région ont beau claironner leur intérêt pour l’union du Maghreb, ils ne peuvent pas se vanter d’un quelconque résultat concret obtenu sur la voie de l’union. Comme la nature a horreur du vide, Microsoft, qui a vu le potentiel du marché, ne s’est pas fait prier pour lancer MSN Maghreb pour capter les publicités concentrées principalement sur les chaînes de télévision. C’est ainsi que le 22 avril dernier, le PDG de Microsoft, Steve Ballmer, a lancé MSN Maghreb qui entend devenir le premier portail à mettre en relation les consommateurs du Maroc, de Tunisie et d’Algérie. « MSN Maghreb, premier portail local à utiliser la technologie du portail MSN, les contenus réalisés avec nos partenaires pour MSN Arabia ainsi que tous les services de Windows Live, permettra aux consommateurs de cette région de se connecter de plus en plus facilement à l’information et aux personnes qui les intéressent », a-t-il dit lors d’une conférence de presse à Skhirat, au sud de Rabat (Maroc). MSN Maghreb, qui est une joint-venture entre Microsoft et Linkdotnet (filiale à 100% de l’opérateur égyptien Orascom), offrira des services en français ainsi qu’un contenu d’informations et de divertissements. En 2000, les mêmes partenaires avaient lancé MSN Arabia en anglais et en arabe et aujourd’hui, selon M. Ballmer, plus de 2 millions de pages sont vues quotidiennement seulement en ce qui concerne l’information. Ce sera LinkdotNet qui fera fonctionner le portail maghrébin. Interrogé par un journaliste, si MSN Maghreb allait adapter son contenu à la mentalité de la région où certains sujets sont sensibles ou même tabous, M. Ballmer a répondu : « Nous voulons que ce portail respecte certaines pratiques et normes, et c’est Linkdotnet qui suivra ces questions avec attention. » Le PDG de Microsoft a estimé qu’ « Internet a connu une véritable explosion dans la région. Depuis 2000, il y a eu une croissance de 6000% au Maroc, 5000% en Algérie et de 1500% en Tunisie, et nous sommes sur le point d’assister à une accélération de l’usage de l’internet dans la région ». « Il y a dix millions d’utilisateurs d’internet dans les trois pays du Maghreb et la moitié va sur Windows Live Messenger ou Hotmail. Nous pensons que le nombre d’utilisateurs augmentera dans les prochaines années », a indiqué à l’AFP Ervan Pouliquen, directeur du marketing de Microsoft pour l’Europe de l’Est, le Moyen-Orient et l’Afrique. Mais pour les partenaires, ce portail est aussi un moyen de capter la publicité. « Cela va apporter de nouvelles opportunités pour la publicité numérique qui est encore à ses débuts et nous allons permettre aux publicitaires de mieux toucher les consommateurs. La publicité sur Internet ne représente que 1% du marché dans cette région. Nous voulons réussir à transférer vers Internet une partie de la publicité qui va à la télévision et à l’affichage », a souligné M. Pouliquen. MSN attire plus de 465 millions de visiteurs chaque mois à travers le monde.
