Selon des chercheurs japonais : Le mobile n’augmente pas le risque de cancer

Des chercheurs japonais ont établi que les gens utilisant régulièrement un téléphone portable ne couraient pas plus de risques de souffrir d’une tumeur cérébrale, selon une étude publiée en ligne par le British Journal of Cancer.
La norme choisie, pour définir l’usage régulier du téléphone, a été d’au moins une fois par semaine pendant six mois. Les chercheurs ont étudié les effets des niveaux de radiations sur différentes parties du cerveau, en comparant 322 personnes souffrant de trois types de tumeurs cancéreuses – gliomes, méningiomes et adénomes, soit 85% des tumeurs cérébrales – à 683 autres en bonne santé. Selon le professeur Naohito Yamaguchi, de l’Université médicale pour femmes de Tokyo, le principal défi « a été d’estimer avec précision combien les différentes parties du cerveau recevaient de radiations. » L’équipe a étudié les radiations émises par 76 types différents de téléphones mobiles. « Ensuite, nous avons analysé comment elles pouvaient affecter différentes zones du cerveau », a indiqué le professeur Yamaguchi. Selon lui, l’étude n’a fait apparaître aucune relation significative entre l’usage du téléphone mobile et le cancer. Lancée en 1999, une étude, Interphone, menée dans 13 pays sous l’égide de l’Agence internationale pour la recherche sur le cancer, vise à établir s’il existe une relation entre l’usage du téléphone mobile et certaines tumeurs du nerf acoustique, des glandes salivaires ou du cerveau (gliome, méningiome), en comparant pendant dix ans des patients souffrant de ce type de tumeurs avec un groupe-témoin. Une étude réalisée dans ce cadre en Israël a fait apparaître que les radiations émises par les téléphones portables augmentaient nettement les risques de cancer des glandes salivaires pour les utilisateurs fréquents (22 heures par mois). Une étude menée en France a fait apparaître également la possibilité d’une augmentation du risque de gliome pour les « forts utilisateurs », soulignant en revanche que l’usage régulier, au moins une fois par semaine, « n’est pas lié à une augmentation du risque. »
